Malaysia’s Densha Otoko ??

August 16, 2006 on 2:33 pm | In News |

Popped into this forum thread on the LowYat.Net forums (our Malaysia’s premier tech geek forum).

Someone is trying to pull a Densha Otoko over here on our KTM?!

Well, if you’re too lazy to read the wiki for Densha, it means ????or literally, “Train Man”.

It’s a bestselling book in Japan, and is mostly a transcript from a BBS forum for Otaku, the Japanese analogy for a Trekkie. An otaku meets a girl on a train. Exchanged addresses. And a romance blossomed.

The otaku, being hopelessly clueless, seeked romantic advice from his forum, and found a family of fellow sufferers who gave him help and support.

This story created quite a phenomenon in Japan, and birthed a movie, which I watched last year while enroute to Melbourne. And even a 10+ episode drama series, which I downloaded.

Oh, GAWD! That was a horrible drama, with the actor continuously putting a sickly pained face like a dying puppy that should be euthanised. The drama, also, exaggerated the story to the point of torture. The movie that I never finished was a better version.

Anyways, it seems that a Malaysian boy is reenacting the phenomenon right now.

Get in on the ground floor and cheer this poor romantic on!
