Battlefront Miniatures has a factory in Shah Alam. A foreign gaming company has their production facilities in Malaysia! How cool is that?
These guys make Flames of War. It’s a WW II tabletop miniatures game. Literally playing with toy soldiers and tanks. Personally, not my cup of tea. I’m not into historical war games. Not a war buff either. I play WARMACHINE cos I love the fantasy elements, and the sculpts of the miniatures. And the fact that my evangelical efforts are rewarded with occasional free stuff from the company
Miniatures made from resin tanks… Not for me. Despite the many friends who are bugging me to join them.
A friend, and fellow WARMACHINE fanatic started working for Battlefront a while ago. I think he’s having a rocking time doing work relevant to his hobby, and working with fellow gaming fanatics. One of said fanatic, Jeff, wants to start up a new gaming club here. A place to game that does not prejudice against creed nor nation, but welcomes all comers.
Because really, the gaming scene in KL is interesting, small, and very clique-ish. Each store builds their own circle of elitist players. Each store tries to corner distributorship of certain games. Shifting alliances to bring down competitors. Even a megalomaniacal insurance guy that part-times as boardgame distributor and trying to dominate all Euro boardgame imports into Malaysia, and openly attacks any retail store that dares import their own stock.
So, a game club for everybody? That’ll be interesting.
Even more so…
A game club with AMPLE air-conditioned space! Lots of tables and chairs. CLEAN. Water cooler and free coffee/milo facilities. Exquisite terrain.
That’s… fantastical.
On Friday, I went to Legio Malaysia‘s gaming night for the first time. It’s just 10min down from where I work. And gaming happens from 530pm to 11pm.
I went with an epic Orsus Zoktavir army.
Satisfying time. Epic battles happen far too rarely.
Good, comfortable and clean atmosphere. Just a pity that it’s a little out of the way for a lot of players. But the crowd is growing. Will see what happens next week too.
So, if you’re a FoW, WH40k, WHF, or WM player, do head down there on Friday night to check it out.
Look for Battlefront Miniatures at Jalan Jurukur, U1/19 at Hicom Glenmarie Industrial Park.

maybe you should learn the facts before you blog about something.
i’m the “megalomaniacal insurance guy that part-times as boardgame distributor and trying to dominate all Euro boardgame imports into Malaysia, and openly attacks any retail store that dares import their own stock” you refer to in your blog.
of course, you never bother to find out that i give ALL retailers 100% consignment so that they can stock the widest range of euro games to sell to their customer without tying up capital?
of course, you don’t know that we sponsor 2 gamers to germany every year to compete in the world settlers of catan championships?
of course you don’t bother to find out that we fix out price regardless of shipping ro custom duty, and encourage most of our retailers to give discounts to their customers when they buy more?
and definitely you won’t know that some retailers have cash flow problems and sometimes take 5 months to pay us, but we’re ok with that without any interest charge?
oh yes, you also then won’t know that we supply retailers with free demo games so their customers can actually try new games for free, thereby helping them to make more sales?
of course, if you have heard about me from one particular gaming store who claims to be the originator of euro games and believe that they have been “attacked” by me, then I cannot but feel sad that you so easily let your views of the world be shaped without research, verification or facts – just what your friendly game store tells you…
please do not be a squirrel that chatters without getting the full facts…
Salutations and welcome.
You are certainly welcome to voice out and defend your position.
Certainly I do not know you personally. This is just my perception from talking to your competitors, some of your customers, some people who don’t want to be your customers, retailers stocking your stuff, and sometimes suppliers giving you your stuff.
That’s not a fair way for me to judge a person. But they’ve given me the impression that you are a good businessman. And a businessman can’t help but step on a lot of tails during his dealings. So please pay no mind what a random blogger rants about. I never expected this blog to show up on the first pages of so many Google searches. ^_^
Oh of course he doesn’t say anything about facts, but here’s a fact:
I mean i only heard it straight from the tyrant’s mouth that a certain megalomaniac started the feud between a certain miniatures store and the comic shop under both of which i was formerly a regular; a feud pushed to the point where last time i went to said miniatures store to play a game i was left feeling extremely unwelcome due to my association with the comic shop. This was simply because he thought it would be a great idea to go to the miniatures store owner and tell him he should try a partnership with the comic shop (who was contemplating bringing in the mini store’s products under said megalomaniac’s urging) and upon the miniature store owner’s hesitance, insinuated that the comic shop may bring the ‘required’ stock in through other means, undermining the miniature shop’s business! This sparked a great deal of suspicion and anger between the two as accusations went flying and left ME suspected of spying for my other regular hangout and clearly unwelcome at what *used* to be one of my childhood game venues!!!
Here’s another little gem:
a small board games grease pit diner i once worked in had a promising young employee, whom like the rest of us was struggling with the operations of this new field, possibly the first in Malaysia. The Singaporean liaison and co-founder of this franchise shot his mouth off and accused the megalomaniac of plagiarism. Now, granted i can see why he would take offense and wish revenge. In response, he made a job offer to said employee, who being the smart one, took it to escape the hellhole in which he worked. However, no sooner did the grease pit close down when the employee was sacked by his new boss, the megalomaniac as his usefulness as an implement of revenge had expired.
How’s that for Chattery full fact, asshole?
