Truly Malaysia ?

Behold. Photographic proof that it’s THAT easy to get your fuel rebate.

I could hardly believe that this is Malaysia.

A fuel hike that was decided behind closed doors after 4 hours’ deliberation.

A band-aid ‘policy’ to appease the people by promising everyone money.

Asking the post-office to handle this, when it never had to handle money on such a scale before.

And on Saturday, the first day when the public can collect their rebate… MunHoo walked out of the post-office with RM1250 in cold hard cash, after 6 minutes.

A simple photocopied form, where you only need to fill in name, address, phone, car no. plate.

Stand in line. Produce your MyKad to verify ownership of vehicles. Thumbprint on the form. Cash handed over the counter.

It is so efficient that a line doesn’t even have the time to build!

There was a moment of dissociation from reality. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

Can things in Malaysia truly be this simple? If there was enough motivation to push efficiency, and there was a way to keep away the pigs who want to profit from every public projects, things can really be this easy?

A note of concern though… Post offices now becomes very good robbery targets. They have to hold a lot of cash in used bills under the counter. There’s almost no security. No CCTVs. No panic alarm buttons. No armed guards. And plenty of hostages at all hours.

I wonder when we’ll get our first case of post office robbery?

And I wonder why such villianous ideas come so readily to me… Maybe I’m missing my true calling to be a criminal mastermind. Look, I’ve even been scoping out some really great secret lair real estate!

Maybe I just need to take a step in the right direction. Get me one of these…
