Russell Crowe is CIA and fights terrorism from his suburban home. Manipulating his assets by remote. Kind of like a Korean cyber-athlete playing Starcraft. And Leonardo diCapprio is the Terran Marine. The religious extremists are the Zergs. And it’s obvious who are the Infested Terrans in this analogy.

You see the thoughtless, callous way that bureaucrats expend human resources in stark contrast to the grunts laying their lives on the line.

The rest of the action didn’t suck too bad either.

Plenty worth the money

Besides, I wanted an excuse to go to MidValley Carrefour on Super Tuesday, cos I get a 10% rebate when I pay with a Maybank credit card. Needed to get some rechargeable batts.

Latest Kevin Smith movie.

Been trying to get hold of it for a while… I’m such a Silent Bob fanboy.

Silent Bob doesn’t make a showing this time. But you still get Jay and Randal Graves from Clerks. But they’re not themselves. This one isn’t part of the New Jersey Chronicles.

Star of the movie is Seth Rogen. Up and coming comedian after he was discovered in 40 Year Old Virgin, went on to do Knocked Up, and just recently did Pineapple Express. Which I just watched as well. That was not unlike Harold & Kumar + Road Trip + a Hot Fuzz ending…

Anyway, back to this movie… 

Zack and Miri are two old platonic friends. Staying together. They’re broke and desperate. So filming a porno is their solution to financial solvency. Of course, they discover their real feelings for each other and confronted them. Happy Ending ensues. In more than one meaning.

Romantic comedies have changed… A LOT. Ever since Meg Ryan bared all in In The Cut.

It seems that the old formula of romantic comedies were overly dependent on the Tom + Meg chemistry to work. Ever since Russell Crowe defiled Meg’s purity, there hasn’t been an onscreen couple with credible chemistry. There’ll probably never be anything like T+M ever again.

Again, back to this movie…

It’s got its dialogue-based humor typical of Kevin’s movies. There’s some Star Wars references. There’s some swearing. There’s fart humor.

Also, just found out that Justin Long, the husky voiced gay porn star, is also the voice of Alvin the Chipmunk. Now, that’s acting RANGE!

And remember the WTF moment in Clerks 2 when Jason Mewes ‘bared all’ ? When for no reason whatsoever, he just flashed the camera…

It happens again. In a parody of the Mel Gibson scene in Lethal Weapon 1. The famous nude walk to the refrigerator… Except the camera’s looking at the front, and not at Mel’s arse.

Double WTF!
