Comic: Pictures for Sad Children

Very crudely drawn webcomics, without any laughs.
But here and there, there’s some very good and very true rants.
Yarr… Potential is pretty useless for an adult.
MPH Warehouse Sale
May 2, 2009 on 2:11 pm | In Books, Comics | 1 CommentGot a little carried away when I find cheap books. In all likelihood, I won’t be able to find the time to read most of what I bought, since I use my time more efficiently by listening to audio books instead these days. I did manage to listen through 4 large volumes of George R.R.Martin’s Song of Fire and Ice series, so this definitely works.
But there’ll always be books that won’t be made available on audio…
Wasn’t easy to find books at the warehouse. Everything’s pretty much jumbled up. You can find A Survey Of Baby Names right next to The Nuclear Jihadist. There’s a TON of teen novels like Buffy, RL Stine etc. Maybe it’s because teen readers are the easiest to stock for. It’s hard to find adults that read any more, the few that do has such varied interests who could know what books to stock?
Anyway, the damage from my trip to the MPH Warehouse Sale:
My first kill. Hard-cover. For cheap. I’ll read this as enthusiastically as I do The Silmarillion. Which is to say not at all. I still remember I borrowed the book from the Brunei national library just as I was about to leave the country for good. I meant to keep it. But my sister in all her wisdom, returned the book in my abscence.
I’m interested in Michael Chabon only cos he wrote Soon I Will be Invincible, which is an interesting book about super heroes, a genre that crossed mediums from graphic novel into novel form. Looking forward to finding the time for this. Also this book was going really really cheap. Like RM 10. Sometimes, a bookstore picks up a quality author, and starts stocking a ton of their books. But unfortunately, especially in Malaysia, the unwashed public hasn’t heard of said author. Miserly sales. Massive overstock. Means fantastic cheap books for ME!
The guy wrote The Third Wave and Future Shock. I’m interested in seeing what new predictions he might have for our time.
One of the better DC superhero comics ever written, and that’s excluding all the stuff published under Vertigo. Felt like this might be a keeper. The spouse of a superhero is murdered. The game is afoot to find out who did the deed. The event changed many dynamics and crossed a few lines.
Another Michael Chabon. An alternate history novel. I’ve never read one of those before…
Rich Dad’s Advisors: Guide to Investing In Gold and Silver: Protect Your Financial Future
Not something I really need. I’m already picking up most of this knowledge via Financialsense.com. But it’s a book I can use to recruite disciples.
I also found a book on Pa Kua style of martial arts. Just for fun.
And a tiny book of star maps… Expect something new, soon…
Manga: Mitsuru Adachi is back!
March 16, 2009 on 12:37 am | In Comics | No CommentsThe old man is back from his 3mth sabbatical!
CrossGame is moving forward!
Have been a fan since 1994. Have a complete collection of Hiatari Ryōkō!, Miyuki, Touch, Short Program, Slow Step, Rough, Niji Iro Tōgarashi, H2, Jinbē, Bōken Shōnen, Itsumo Misora and Katsu!
His stories are better than Prozac.
He’s already 58. Goodness…
It seems that these days, I’m just waiting for the next shoe to drop, as my favourite writers expire one after another. In the beginning, it was a thrill discovering new writers, and devouring their brilliance. One great book will lead to another. One incredible writer to the next. Harvesting joy from every genre.
But now there’s nothing new under the sun.
Bah, enough pessimism… Let’s just savour the Adachis now that they’re back again
Movie: The Watchmen
March 3, 2009 on 4:08 pm | In Comics, Movies | No CommentsAnticipation is building for the movie-lisation of Alan Moore’s awesome graphic novel.
